Are you curious about prepaid credit cards? Have you ever thought the words prepaid and credit don’t really go together? Well, I’ve thought about that so I decided to provide this quick guide to help with this confusing issue.

Prepaid credit cards are the best option for those who don’t want to deal with monthly credit card bills and staggering interest rates. You can enjoy the features desirable in a credit card without exposing yourself to its risks.

As the name suggests, prepaid credit cards are paid in advance. In order to get one, you will need to make a deposit to a special bank account for this purpose. The amount you deposit is the exact amount you will be spending using your card. This way, you will not be tempted to spend more than what you can afford and there’s no risk of finding yourself in debt.

There are people who want to do away with credit cards altogether. However, it’s just impossible to live normally without credit cards. There are unavoidable transactions that can be accomplished only with credit cards such as airline bookings, car rentals, and hotel reservations. It’s a good thing these prepaid credit cards exist, because they work like any other credit cards without the disadvantages. It’s pretty much like paying in cash using a card.

This type of credit card is also perfect for those with a bad credit history and very low credit scores. These factors are not significant in your application for prepaid credit cards. So, no matter how bad your credit standing, you are guaranteed to get this card.

However, this type of credit card is not without disadvantages. Cable TV and internet subscriptions and purchases with fixed monthly deductions from credit cards may not be compatible with prepaid cards for the simple reason that you cannot be billed. In the likely possibility that you stop depositing money in your card’s account, the companies for these services and purchases will be left without any recourse.

You need to take note that although prepaid cards are without interest rates, you will still be charged with minimal fees for opening the account and for every deposit that you are going to make.

Disadvantages notwithstanding, prepaid credit cards remain perfect alternatives for those who want to do away with the risks associated with regular credit cards. And, they are almost essential for people with bad credit.

Between my family we’ve owned more prepaid credit cards over time than we can count, including Vision Premier, Greendot, etc. But, the last few years I have found that this one is the best for our needs AccountNow Visa. Why? Because I was ecstatic to discover how well-designed and child’s play to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) AccountNow Visa’s are.
